Toya's Hair Diary: Me and My Schizo Hair

It has hit as high as 110 degrees in Nashville this summer and my hair has been thirstier than the last batch of contestants on VH1's Flavor of Love.

Seriously this man had his pick of 25 different women for three seasons? Gotta love America.  Anyway, I digress. My hair has been parched! Am I the only one that feels like their hair is somewhat schizo?  A few weeks ago I went back to my styling regimen of Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Paul Mitchell's Clean Gel after the Lustrasilk Curl Pudding I used was giving me major flakes.  After going to EIGHT DIFFERENT STORES in Middle TN to find Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie, my hair sang when I went back to it!

That lasted for about a week. But then after that my hair started looking like it had shrunk almost two inches!  My curls shrunk and the moisture was zapped.  I even think the color has changed!  It doesn't know what it wants to be!  I have finally just had to pull it up and wait for fall.

I had to think about if I had changed anything and then I realized that it had been a while since I used a homemade recipe to deep condition my hair. For my hair, nothing works better.

I got my recipe from Naptural85's Youtube page. She's definitely one of my favorite Youtube Naturalistas.

I did this yesterday but substituted the mayo for yogurt. It works wonders! My hair isn't entirely back to normal but it's a start.  I will confess that I need to up my water intake too so I am sure that will help me get my curls back to being bouncy and shiny in no time. Although keeping natural hair healthy seems to be so laborious with all of the pre-pooing, deep conditioning, clarifying, detangling, shingling, and so on and so forth. It's worth it. It's part of you and everyone deserves to take care of themselves. So please remember, as I will definitely try to myself, take care of your hair in this heat. Unlike 911, it ain't no joke!

That's right. Two Flavor Flav references in one post. Yeeeeah boooooy!
