Toya's Hair: Second Time Around

I'm in my seventh month of being natural for the second time and my hair has never been healthier. Before my last Big Chop, I wore my hair straight for two years after wearing it natural for ten. I remember when I made the decision to straighten my hair after ten years. Everything seemed to be a mess. You know as women oftentimes everything can seem out of wack at once. Ever hear of the book Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti? I don't know how my frustrations with my business, day time job and love life rolled into one big ball of spaghetti but for some reason I felt that the only way to straighten out my life was to straighten out my hair.

Now I am back to having natural hair and could not be happier. A lot has changed within the natural hair community since the first time I did The Big Chop. I was delighted to find that this go round there is so much more accessible information and such a larger natural hair community. Keep in mind though that when I went natural in the 90's there were no Youtube videos and such. Heck there was no Youtube! But now we have plenty of Youtube channels, websites, events and such dedicated to uniting and educating those within the natural hair community. These things have been very useful to developing my natural hair regimen this time around. For instance, lately I have been striving to use more organic and natural products whereas before I used plenty of products that contained ingredients that would weigh my hair down. Here is a list of items I am currently using on my thick, wash n' go, 4A type hair:

Styling: Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie (my favorite product. A God send)

As you can see, about half of the products I regularly use are organic. I'm definitely looking forward to experimenting with more organic products in the future. Stay tuned for reviews.
